In San Deigo, a video showing dozens of beachgoers running and jumping out of the way of two sea lions scurrying on shore has gone viral.
The video has sparked conversations about whether the animals were going after people and reclaiming the picturesque cove.
But sea lion experts say what they sees is normal sea lion behavior for this time of year, when males are sparring over females as breeding season gets underway.
Experts said if a sea lion is barreling in your direction, don't stand by and watch.
