A man stranded in a raging river in Pakistan was rescued by an army helicopter crew on Sunday.

Footage shows how the crew lowers a rope to the man as he clings onto some rocks.

Eventually, the rescuers manage to winch him up into the air, away from the powerful torrent.

The incident was caught on camera in Lower Kohistan in the north-east of the country.

The area has been hit hard by deadly flooding, caused by heavy monsoon rains.

Widespread flooding since mid-June has left more than 1,000 people dead.
