Pakistan has launched ‘Operation Azm-i-Istehkam’, the latest in a series of counter-terrorism campaigns launched since 2001.
According to a Times of India report, the move comes amid mounting pressure from China, particularly in view of recent attacks targeting Chinese interests in Pakistan.
The initiative which stands for 'Resolve for Stability' was launched by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with an aim to curb the surge in violence and armed attacks in the country, most of which have been claimed by militant group TTP in recent months.
The operation also comes amid threat of militants in border areas amid Islamabad's heightened tensions with the Taliban in Afghanistan.
