Pervez Musharraf, the former military ruler of Pakistan, passed away at a hospital in Dubai on 5 February 2023, according to reports.
The 79-year-old former dictator was suffering from amyloidosis, and undergoing treatment at American Hospital Dubai, according to Pakistani news reports. Amid reports of his death in June 2022, his family had tweeted that he is not on ventilator, but going through a difficult stage where recovery was not possible.
Musharraf grabbed power in 1999 in a bloodless coup, and served as President of Pakistan between 2001 and 2008.
He was in self-exile in Dubai.
Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943 in Delhi. The former president's family moved from New Delhi to Karachi in 1947. He joined the Pakistan Army in 1964 and was a graduate of the Army Staff and Command College, Quetta.
