President Vladimir Putin is ready to halt the war in Ukraine if Russia is allowed to keep the four regions, Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, which it took control of in 2022, Reuters reported quoting multiple Kremlin sources.
According to a source quoted in the report, Putin can fight for as long as it takes, but he is also ready for a ceasefire to freeze the war.
Putin believes that Russians can be sold on the idea that the motherland has taken back enough territory, the source said.
But this condition of ceasefire by Putin is likely to gain serious opposition from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as he has vowed not to give up any territory to Russia and even retake Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014.
It was also reported that Putin invaded Ukraine with the goal of reuniting at least part of the former Soviet Union, which was dissolved in 1991.
