Soon after US President Joe Biden said that he was cancelling his trip to Australia for a Quad alliance meeting, the Australian Prime Minister said that the summit stood cancelled.

Australia was set to host the Quad meeting on May 24, 2023.

PM Anthony Albanese on May 17 said that leaders of the 4 Quad nations - India, USA, Australia, and Japan - may meet on the sidelines of the G7 summit being held in Hiroshima between May 19 and 21.

Albanese said that Biden's decision was "understandable" due to the looming US debt ceiling crisis.
