The Israeli military has said that it "accidentally fired and hit an Egyptian post" with a tank, near the border with Gaza, as the army bombarded the Palestinian enclave.
"The IDF (Israeli military) expresses sorrow regarding the incident" near the Kerem Shalom area, an army statement said.
This comes after the blast and sound of ambulances were heard near the Rafah crossing border soon after trucks carrying aid entered into Gaza from Egypt on October 22.
Meanwhile, an Egypt's military spokesman said an unspecified number of border guards sustained "minor injuries" from "fragments of a shell accidentally fired from an Israeli tank".
The Egyptian army said Israel had "immediately expressed its regret over the unintentional incident and an investigation is underway".
