All hurdles have been cleared for Rishi Sunak to become the UK's next prime minister after Penny Mordaunt dropped out of the Tory leadership race.
The ex-chancellor gained the support of well over half of Tory MPs, with Mordaunt struggling to reach the 100 MP threshold. As she withdrew from the race, Mordaunt said she is proud of the campaign she ran but Sunak has her full support.
Sunak is poised to walk through the door of 10 Downing Street in London after an audience with King Charles III in Buckingham Palace, the timeframe of which will become known soon.
Sunak, whose grandparents reportedly migrated from Pakistan's Gujjaranwala in the 1930, will become the UK's first British Asian PM.
