In an unusual incident, a man was killed in a 'robot dumpster' in Greece. The incident occurred on May 16 in the port city of Alexandroupolis.

Authorities said that the victim was probably homeless, and looking for food in the dumpster. The 40-year-old got trapped inside the automated bin, and was crushed to death by the compactor mechanism.

'Robot dumpsters' are tall, cylindrical garbage bins installed in smaller municipalities of Greece. These automated dumpsters are fitted with compactors which help reduce frequency of garbage pick-up, and also the odour from the waste during the summer.

Paramedics and fire personnel extracted the victim's body from the robot bin. They set up a screen around the dumpster to hide the gruesome scene.
