Russia continued to lay the blame on the USA in the phone call between the defence ministers of the two countries on 15 March 2023 regarding the Black Sea drone crash.

Russia's defence minister Sergei Shoigu told US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin that America's increased intelligence-gathering against Russia had led to the incident.

Shoigu also accused US forces of not complying with the "restricted flight zone" declared by Russia due to the Ukraine war. Moscow also warned of "proportionate" responses to future "provocations".
