Amid a raging civil war in Sudan, the European Union said that its ambassador to the African nation was attacked inside his residence on 17 April 2023.

European Union officials said that 58-year-old diplomat Aidan O'Hara was "assaulted" at home in Khartoum, but did not reveal details about any injuries.

EU officials added that "security of diplomatic premises and staff is a primary responsibility of Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law".
