Taiwan has reported a surge in Chinese military activity around the island.

The country's defence ministry said that 25 Chinese aircraft and 7 naval vessels were detected in Taiwan's airspace and waters in a span of 24 hours. Of these, 17 aircraft crossed into Taiwan's Air Defence Identification Zone.

This follows similar incursions earlier in the week, with 13 aircraft and 8 naval vessels having been detected.

In response to these incursions, Taiwan mobilized its aircraft and naval vessels but there have been no direct confrontations.

Taiwan is monitoring the situation closely, as China continues to assert its presence near the island.
