The Taliban on November 6 revealed that the burial of their founder Mullah Omar has been placed in Suri district of Zabul province.
A Taliban spokesman told AFP Sunday that senior leaders of the movement attended a ceremony at his gravesite, adding that death was kept secret to avoid any damage to the tomb from enemies.’
He also confirmed that Omar's final resting place is now available for common people as well.
Rumours of Omar’s health and whereabouts had started floating after Taliban was forced out of Afghanistan following US invasion. It was in 2015 when they confirmed that their founder died in 2013.
Omar founded the Taliban in 1993 as an alternative and a defying force against the Soviet Union. He died aged 55.
The now ruling regime in Afghanistan, Taliban took control of the country last year after ousting the Ashraf Ghani’s government in the wake of US forces withdrawing from the country.
