Tipu Sultan's bedchamber sword was auctioned at an auction house in London on Tuesday. The sword of the 18th-century ruler of Mysuru was sold for 14 million pounds ($17.4 million or Rs 143 crore) at Bonhams Islamic and Indian Art sale, as per India Today.
The whopping amount made by the historic sword has set a new auction world record for an Indian and Islamic object.
Although the sword was estimated at around 1,500,000-2,000,000 pounds, a press release by Bonhams said.
According to the auction house the spectacular weapon had a proven personal association with the ruler. After he was killed, the majestic sword was handed over to British Major General David Baird.
