An unpleasant end to a meal of butter chicken is rare but not impossible. A UK man died after eating just a bite of the popular Indian curry, which is made using cashew nuts and almonds.
The 27-year-old’s allergic reaction was triggered after eating the nut-based dish, which has gained immense popularity in the UK over the decades. Despite being equipped with a counter-allergic device, the man succumbed to anaphylaxis.
Joseph Higginson, who hailed from Greater Manchester, had known about his allergies to nuts. He had also searched for allergens in the takeaway food, India Today report
The restaurant had “clearly indicated” that the dish contained nuts, according to digital news portal the Mirror.
“People with allergies should always take the situation seriously. It is not something that can be taken for granted - the severity can change throughout a person's lifetime,” the man’s sister said, as per India Today.
