Vice President Kamala Harris has blasted the U.S. Supreme Court after a leaked draft suggested that country's top court could overturn federal abortion rights.
"If the court overturns Roe v Wade. It will be a direct assault on freedom and on the fundamental right of self-determination to which all Americans are entitled. Roe protects the right to access abortion. It also protects a woman's right to make decisions about what she does with her own body," she said at EMILY’S List political action committee national conference.
The draft decision, which was leaked Monday night, would overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion nationwide.
"Let's talk about what a world without Roe looks like. Women in almost half the country could see their access to abortion severely limited. In 13 of those states, women would lose access to abortion immediately and outright," the US Vice-President said.
Harris, the first woman to be elected to the of the US Vice-President also slammed the Republicans for backing anti-abortion laws.
