Days after a shooting attack during Lunar New Year celebrations in Los Angeles, fresh incidents of mass shootings were reported from California and Iowa.
At least 7 people were killed in 2 related shootings on 23 January 2023 in a coastal community south of San Francisco in California. Four of the victims were killed at a mushroom farm, and three at a trucking firm on the outskirts of Half Moon Bay.
A suspect was in custody, police were quoted as saying.
The shooting followed the killing of 11 people late Saturday at a ballroom dance hall in Southern California.
“We are sickened by today's tragedy in Half Moon Bay," Dave Pine, president of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, said in a statement. “We have not even had time to grieve for those lost in the terrible shooting in Monterey Park. Gun violence must stop.”
Meanwhile, in Iowa state's capital Des Moines, a shooting incident occurred at a youth outreach centre on 23 January.
At least 2 students died, while a teacher was seriously injured.
