Weeks after a train derailment in Ohio, the town of East Palestine has been warned to not drink tap water, and consume only bottled water.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on 15 February 2023 asked the town's residents to not take any chances, even though water was "fine" in the first well that was tested.

On 3 February, the Norfolk Southern Train derailed in the area while transporting cargo from Madison, Illinois to Conway, Pennsylvania.
38 bogeys went off the track, causing a fire which damaged another 12 wagons. 11 of the derailed bogeys were carrying hazardous materials, including vinyl chloride, butyl acrylate and other chemicals.

Nearby residents were evacuated for 5 days. Air and water quality continue to be monitored in the area.
