A cyber attack has led to cancellation of school classes in some areas of the US state of Iowa. Des Moines Public Schools said that classes would be cancelled for 33,000 students on 10 January 2023.
Iowa's largest school district said on 9 January that it had been alerted to a "cyber security incident" and it had taken internet and network services offline to assess the situation. It did not describe the nature of the attack or reveal whether sensitive information might have been stolen.
“Because many technology tools that support both classroom learning as well as the management and operation of the school district are not available at this time, the prudent decision is to close the district for the day," the district said.
Sports and other activities were allowed to continue as planned.
