North Korea announced the death of one of its veteran senior officials early Wednesday.
Kim Ki Nam died at the age of 94 on 7 May 2024, after "multiple organ dysfunction," the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
Kim Ki Nam was a survivor of North Korea's socialist bureaucracy over generations, and he was one of the seven people who accompanied current leader Kim Jong Un alongside the hearse at the funeral of the North's second leader Kim Jong Il, back in 2011.
Still photos from KCNA showed Kim Jong Un visiting the body of Kim Ki Nam overnight, early Wednesday morning.
KCNA says that Kim Ki Nam's funeral will take place on Thursday.
