An unusual decision by Russian President Vladimir Putin has strengthened speculation that he is suffering from a serious illness.

Putin has cancelled his annual press conference which he holds at the end of the year. This is reportedly the first time in 10 years that Putin's press briefing has been cancelled.

The Kremlin spokesperson expressed hope that Putin would "still find an opportunity" to speak with the press.
