A suspected shooting star dominated the skies of Scotland and Northern Ireland on Wednesday as locals gazed at the spectacular view.

A ball of light crossed the skies with UK's Meteor Network receiving hundreds of reports of a fireball on Wednesday night.

In a now viral video, the fireball can be seen streaking across the sky, over buildings leaving the passersby stunned.

A scientist at the Glasgow Scientists Centre has referred to the imagery as "brilliant fireball" outlining that the sighting was unusual in its duration.

UK daily 'The Guardian' reported that country's Meteor Network was trying to calculate the fireball's trajectory from the hundreds of reports it received from Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The network was also “investigating to ascertain what the object was, meteor or space debris,” the report added
