With rescue operations underway for the fourth day after a devastating earthquake rocked Turkey and Syria, heartbreaking visuals continue to emerge from the affected areas.

One such video was shared by World Health Organisation chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on 8 February 2023. It showed a young girl and her sibling lying between two slabs of concrete as rescuers try to pull them out. The girl is seen shielding the head of her sibling with her arm.

Ghebreyesus said he has "endless admiration for this brave girl". UN representative Mohamad Safa said that the 7-year-old and her younger sibling were trapped for 17 hours but made it out alive.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the two countries crossed the 15,000-mark early on 9 February.
