With the Russia-Ukraine war in its 11th week, America stepped up its efforts to help Ukraine as it gives a tough fight to its bigger and richer neighbour.
The US House of Representatives approved a fresh USD 40 billion aid package for Ukraine on May 10. This was $7 billion more than what US President Joe Biden had requested.
The aid package was passed with 368 legislators for and 57 against the move. The measure will provide military and economic assistance to Ukraine, help regional allies, replenish weapons that the Pentagon has sent abroad, and provide USD 5 billion to address global food shortages caused by the war's impact on Ukraine's crop production.

The total aid mobilised by America for Ukraine will reach nearly $54 billion with the latest measure. In March 2022, the US Congress had approved support of $13.6 billion.
The Western outlook on the war has changed in recent times, with Russia's floundering campaign giving hope that Ukraine might actually win.
