Russia will use nuclear weapons in the ongoing war with Ukraine only if it faces an 'existential threat,' Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told CNN International Tuesday.
Peskov's comment was in reply to the interviewer question on whether he was 'convinced or confident' that President Vladimir Putin would not use the nuclear option in the Ukrainian context.

Putin had announced on February 28, just a few days after Russia invaded Ukraine, that he has put the country's strategic nuclear forces on high alert.
Russia has the world's largest stockpile of nuclear warheads.
