Trevor Jacob, a YouTuber who deliberately sent his plane crashing to garner more views on the social media site could face a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
The BBC reported that Jacob has admitted that he filmed the video as part of a product sponsorship deal.
In November 2021, Jacob left a Santa Barbara airport in California on a solo flight with cameras mounted on his plane. Along with the cameras, he took a parachute with him, as well as a selfie stick.
The prosecutor said Jacob "did not intend to reach his destination, but instead planned to eject from his aircraft during the flight and video himself parachuting to the ground and his airplane as it descended and crashed. The video of the crash has garnered over 3 million hits on YouTube.
