Microsoft has announced that an Xbox Live Gold membership will no longer be required to play free-to-play games on the Xbox consoles. The company shared this through its Xbox Insider programme.

With an upcoming update, users who want to play games like Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Destiny 2 will no longer require an active Xbox Live Gold membership. However, the membership will continue to be required for multiplayer access on paid games.

It is worth noting that Sony and Nintendo have always allowed users without a paid subscription to play multiplayer free-to-play games on their consoles.
