Bumrah bags 6-wicket haul but Markram's incredible century sets India a target of 79 | SA vs IND

With his 6-fer, Bumrah has now taken 18 wickets at Newlands, Cape Town - the highest for a visiting fast bowler in Tests.

Bumrah bags 6-wicket haul but Markram's incredible century sets India a target of 79 | SA vs IND

Jasprit Bumrah, India's pace spearhead, displayed a remarkable performance on day 2, dismantling the South African batting lineup with ease. Bumrah’s lethal bowling led to a five-wicket haul, leaving the Proteas struggling to find their footing against his onslaught.

The Indian pacer claimed the wickets of David Bedingham, Kyle Verreyne, Marco Jansen, and Keshav Maharaj, all within the first hour of the day's play. However, South African batter Aiden Markram showcased resilience against Bumrah's formidable attack.

Relive how sensational Siraj derailed South Africa with best bowling figures

Markram had a close shave when he edged a delivery from Bumrah at 74 runs, only to be dropped by KL Rahul. This miss proved costly for the Indian team as Markram seized the opportunity, swiftly amassing a century off just 99 balls on a challenging pitch. His century was particularly notable given that the next-highest score from a South African player was only 12 runs. Upon reaching his hundred, Markram dedicated his remarkable achievement to stand-in captain Dean Elgar, who is participating in his farewell Test.

Despite Bumrah's dominant bowling, Markram's resilience added a measure of dignity to South Africa's total. Eventually, Markram was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj, but not before playing a crucial role in lifting South Africa's score. Bumrah picked up the final wicket, finishing with a 6-fer as the hosts concluded their innings on 176, setting India a target of 79 runs to equalize the series.
