Former World athletics chief jailed for corruption

Former President Lamine Diack of IAAF which is the world body for athletics was sentenced to two years in prison for corruption. The verdict came from a court in Paris for corruption during his 16-year long tenure with the IAAF. Diack was accused of taking millions from Russian athletes to let them compete despite calls for suspension due to doping. The 87-year-old is also accused of influencing world leaders for hosting the Olympics. Apart from the jail term which has been contested by his lawyers, Diack has been asked to cough up a 500,000 euros fine.
