Tech giants Facebook and Google independently announced new climate commitments that the two companies would meet in the years to come. Both the companies aim to be completely carbon neutral, joining the likes of Apple and Microsoft. Google had first announced plans to go carbon neutral in 2007 and now declared that the company has retroactively offset all carbon it has ever emitted, since its foundation in 1998. It hopes to be powered exclusively by renewable energy by 2030. Facebook aims to be 100% supported by renewable energy this year. It has also announced a plan for net-zero emissions for its entire “value chain” by 2030.
