the Women and Child Development Department is adopting newer measures to help eliminate the problem of malnutrition in Maharashtra. State-run initiatives to address malnutrition in children under the age of 6 years, took a major blow due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Women and Child ministry will be reaching out to children and caregivers, training them to use the Mid Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC), which is a band to measure the degree of malnutrition in children. The device can guage whether the child has Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) or Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM). 7,000 children have already started receiving the ready-to-eat Energy Dense Nutritious Food (EDNF).
