UP Election 2022: Akhilesh Yadav says he won't contest state polls next year

Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said he will not be contesting the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls early next year.

Akhilesh also said that an alliance between his party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) for the polls has been finalised.

Yadav, who is also SP MP from Azamgarh and is seen as the chief minister face of his party, made the announcement in an interview to news agency PTI. 

Akhilesh served as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 to 2017.
