In a fresh round of layoffs, Amazon has laid off hundreds of employees from its Web Sevices arm. Sales, marketing and tech roles are majorly impacted by this round of layoffs.
A company spokesperson as quoted by Reuters said, "We've identified a few targeted areas of the organization we need to streamline,"
Earlier, Amazon laid off several hundreds of employees in its Prime Video and MGM Studios segment. In an internal memo sent to Amazon employees the reason for the reduction stated that it is to reduce or discontinue investments in certain areas while increasing investment and focus on content that delivers the most impact.
Aligning with the industry trend of mass layoffs in the tech sector, In 2022 and 2023 Amazon cut a total of 27,000 jobs as reported by the layoff tracking website Layoffs.fyi
The exact number of employees affected by this round of layoff has not been disclosed yet.
