India Inc stalwart, Rahul Bajaj, the Former Chairman of Bajaj Auto passed away, he was 83.
Born on June 30, 1938 in Kolkata, Rahul Bajaj graduated from St Stephen's College in Delhi in 1958 and also earned a degree in law from Bombay University. Then he went on to pursue MBA from Harvard Business School in the US and became CEO of Bajaj Auto in 1968.Bajaj was one of the one of the longest-serving chairmen in corporate India with nearly 50 years holding the chief title.
From launching Chetak and Super to the ever famous 'Hamara Bajaj' campaign Rahul Bajaj is revered as an astute businessman. He created immense value for shareholders when in 2008 he ensured a smooth transfer of his power to his sons as he split the company into three units — Bajaj Auto, finance company Bajaj Finserv and a holding company. While Rajiv Bajaj manages the auto business, the finance company is under younger brother Sanjiv.
In 2019 Rahul Bajaj grabbed headlines as he questioned the govt, stating that corporates were afraid of the Modi govt. Often outspoken and fearless in echoing the woes of India Inc, this is a voice that will sorely be missed.
