They say luxury bags give you more confidence and show your neighbors that you're doing good. Well, maybe that's not the case with Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, who has made headlines after a video of her hiding her Louis Vuitton bag in the Lok Sabha went viral on social media.

A video that has emerged on twitter shows Trinamool Congress’s Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar speaking in the Lok Sabha and Moitra sitting right next to her. As soon as Dastidar raised the issue of price rise, Moitra, it appeared, quickly slid her Louis Vuitton bag under the table.

The snippet instantly went viral as social media wondered how one of the representatives of the Trinamool Congress party, which has been targeting the Centre over inflation, was carrying an ultra-expensive handbag to the parliament. Netizens bashed the TMC MP for raising the issue of price rise but carrying a bag worth a lakh.

The Louis Vuitton purse that Mohua Moitra can be seen carrying in the viral video costs approximately Rs 2 lakh.

However, Investment banker-turned-legislator Mahua Moitra, in 2019 had declared movable assets worth over Rs 2.64 crore, including bank deposits in the United Kingdom while contesting the Assembly elections from Karimpur in Nadia district.

In the latest affidavit filed before the Election Commission (EC), the 44-year-old MLA has declared Rs 5,000 cash and Rs 1.43 crore in banks deposits in India, besides a bank balance of over Rs 1.30 lakh in a branch of National Westminster Bank, commonly known as NatWest, in London.

Moitra, who has worked as a Vice President of JP Morgan in the UK, joined politics in September 2008.
