You probably know that China has the maximum number of 5G handsets in the world. But what you possibly don't know is that India has just become the second-largest market for 5G handsets.
Yes, India has surpassed the United States in the race for 5G dominance as per the report by Counterpoint Research.
But how did India achieve this?
The surge in 5G handset usage in India can be attributed to strong shipments from brands such as Xiaomi, vivo, Samsung and others in the budget segment.
This has reshaped global 5G handset usage, with China holding a 32% share,and India's share of the pie growing to 13%.
Meanwhile, the US has slipped to third place, with a 10% share.
Globally, Apple leads in 5G handset shipments with over 25 per cent of the market, predominantly driven by the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 series.
Samsung follows with over 21 per cent market share, thanks to its Galaxy A and S24 series.
In the first half of 2024, Apple and Samsung each claimed five positions in the top ten list of 5G models, with Apple occupying the top four spots.
