Tech giant Microsoft has confirmed another round of layoffs this week, reported Geekwire. As per the report, the layoffs will impact various teams and locations across the company. Meanwhile, Microsoft has not disclosed the number of employees that have been impacted in the latest round of job cuts.
As per GeekWire that quoted a LinkedIn post, the job cuts have been in Product and program management functions. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed the layoffs to GeekWire.
“Organisational and workforce adjustments are a necessary and regular part of managing our business,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “We will continue to prioritise and invest in strategic growth areas for our future and in support of our customers and partners.”
At the beginning of the year, Microsoft cut almost 2,000 jobs in its gaming division. Last month, another round of layoffs impacted roughly 1,000 positions, including roles within the Azure cloud unit and the HoloLens mixed-reality team. In the last 18 months, Microsoft has laid off thousands of employees.
Microsoft's fiscal year ends on June 30 and restructuring efforts during this period are not unusual for the tech giant. The organisation went through restructuring even in 2023.
