PM Modi attends Amul's Golden Jubilee, says Amul should become world's largest dairy brand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday unveiled 5 projects worth Rs 1,200 crore at the Golden Jubilee celebration of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF). GCMMF runs the brand Amul.

The projects include modern cheese plant of Sabar Dairy, a long-life tetra pack milk plant of Amul Dairy at Anand, expansion of its chocolate plant and a 50,000-litre ice cream plant of Sarhad Dairy in Kutch

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while speaking at the event hailed Amul for its contributions to the Indian diary sector. 

"After India's independence, several brands came up in the country. Lekin Amul jaisa koi nahi - Amul has become the identity of livestock keepers. Amul means trust, Amul means development, Amul means public participation, Amul means farmer empowerment, Amul means inspiration for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Amul means big dreams, big resolutions and bigger accomplishments," Modi said in Ahmedabad

He further went on to call Amul's success an 'example' for future generations. 

"Amul is also an example of how the destiny of future generations is changed with the decisions taken with farsightedness. Today, this is an exemplary model of Government-Cooperative coordination. Due to such efforts, today we are the biggest milk producing country", he said.

Future plans for Amul

Prime Minister Modi while noting that Amul is the 8th largest dairy company in the world, encouraged the firm to reach position 1, assuring full support from the government. 

"Amul is the world's 8th largest dairy company, you have to make it world's No 1 dairy company and on this way you will have full support of the government. This is Modi's guarantee," he said

He also praised the contribution of Gujarat and women in India's diary sector which in turn fuelled the country's growth. 

"Taking complete advantage of the double-engine government, Gujarat is leading in the cooperative production of milk. In the last 2 decades, the number of milk corporations in the state has doubled from 12 to 23. More than 36 lakh people are connected with the dairy industry, including 11 lakh women. Out of the 16,384 milk houses, 3300 are completely run by women. These women have become financial support for their families," he said

Prime Minister Modi is on a visit to Gujarat where he will unveil development projects worth more than Rs 22,850 crore in different sectors including road, rail, energy, health, internet connectivity, urban development, water supply, tourism.
