The AAP govt on Friday moved the HC against a judgment that said the Directorate of Education has no power of indefinitely postponing the collection of fees by the private schools.

In a judgment passed on Monday, the single bench allowed schools to collect fees from the students with an annual deduction of 15% on the total fee for the unutilized school premise facilities.

The DoE in its appeal highlighted the 'onslaught of additional financial burden' for a common man who is already struggling to make ends meet due to the heavy medical expenses.

In August last year, the Delhi govt had directed private schools to only take tuition fees from the students.

Arguing that the order was issued on humanitarian ground, the DOE said that the schools are conducting online classes with drastically reduced overheads like electricity, maintenance, and transportation.
