The Election Commission has announced restrictions on campaigning for the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur keeping in mind the surge in coronavirus cases in the country.
The poll panel has banned all physical rallies, roadshows and marches till January 15. It will take call on their resumption according the to Covid-19 situation on that date.
No rallies, roadshows or any kind of public election campaigning can be done between 8pm and 8am even after January 15.
The Election Commission also restricted people who can go for door-to-door campaigning to 5.
All political parties have been asked to campaign digitally and virtually as much as possible.
The Commission has also banned victory celebrations and only two persons will be allowed to accompany the candidate to collect the winning certificate.

Political parties have been asked to provide masks, hand sanitisers to people attending rallies, if they are allowed. The poll panel also said that it will not hesitate to bar parties from further rallies if COVID protocol is not followed
