The second and final phase of voting in Gujarat is taking place today with 93 constituencies up for grabs, and 833 candidates in the fray. Polling is taking place across 14 districts of central and northern Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Gandhinagar with 2.5 crore eligible voters.
The first phase took place on 1 December 2022. The first phase of voting was for 89 seats in Saurashtra, Kutch and south Gujarat regions, and an average voter turnout of 63.31 per cent was recorded.
In 2017, the BJP won 48 of 89 seats in the first phase, and 51 in the second phase, taking its total to 99 out of 182 seats. The Congress party won 38 in the first phase and 39 in the second phase in the 2017 polls.

In central Gujarat, the BJP had bagged 37 seats, outnumbering the Congress which got 22. But in north Gujarat, the Congress had won 17 seats while the saffron party got 14.
The BJP and the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP are contesting in all the 93 seats. The Congress is contesting in 90 seats and its alliance partner Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has fielded candidates in two seats.
Among other parties, the Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) has fielded 12 candidates and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) 44.
