Ahead of the Gujarat elections, the Congress targeted the BJP over the release of men convicted for the gangrape of Bilkis Bano and murder of her family during the 2002 riots.
Despite allegations of bias against the minority community, the BJP managed to win most of the constituencies considered Muslim-majority areas.
There are at least 12 Muslim-dominated seats, according to reports, and BJP won ten of them.

The constituencies which BJP won were Limbayat, Bapunagar, Abdasa, Jambusar, Bhuj, Vejalpur, Bharuch, Surat East, Vagra, and Dariapur. The BJP's winning margin in these seats ranged from 5,400 to 64,400.
The Congress bagged the other two Muslim-majority seats of Danilimda and Jamalpur-Khadia.
