Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on June 3 reacted to 'Laapata gentlemen' memes purportedly pointing to 'inaction' by the poll body during the election campaign. Kumar in a presser said that election commissioners were always present and never went missing, dismissing the memes that referred to them as 'Laapata gentlemen'.

Rajiv Kumar said, "Social media meme pages are calling us ‘Laapataa Gentlemen'. But we were never laapata (missing), we were always here."

He further quipped, "Now memes can say the 'Laapata Gentlemen' are back.

The poll body's response to the memes came a day before Lok Sabha elections results.
