BJP MP Tejaswi Surya was forced to leave an election campaign in Bengaluru after being confronted by depositors who had suffered losses in a multi-crore scam involving the Sri Guru Raghavendra Sahakara Bank Niyamitha (SGRSBN).
Tejaswi Surya was heckled on April 13 as the depositors were demanding answers from the MP and other leaders like Basavanagudi BJP legislator L A Ravi Subramanya about the delay in compensating them for the losses suffered.
Visuals of Tejaswi Surya leaving the event after being heckled are doing rounds on the internet. Surya was also seen arguing with a few investors who walked up to him and raised queries.
The Indian Express reported that the scam involved the alleged misappropriation of around Rs 2,500 crore by the bank management, and was exposed in 2020 when the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed withdrawal restrictions on the bank, with most receiving the Rs 5 lakh insurance amount from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation.
