Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government Friday informed the Punjab & Haryana High Court that the state has made it easier for Amritpal Singh, 'Waris Punjab De' chief to file his nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state.
Singh is currently detained in Assam's Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act.
Arjun Sheoran, DAG Punjab informed the high court, "Two sets of nomination forms and other paper work were filled in and signed by the detenue on 09.05.2024. The detenue was allowed to meet his proposer and Advocate at Dibrugarh Central Jail on 09.05.2024.", Live Law reported.
Following which Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj said, considering that the prayers made in the petition had already been complied with, the petition would be “infructuous”, the report further added.
Earlier on May 7, the father of the radical preacher Tarsem Singh told PTI Amritpal Singh was reluctant to fight elections but changed his mind at the instance of the 'sangat' or community, which wanted him to enter the poll fray.
Notably, Amritpal Singh will fight the Lok Sabha polls from the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency in Punjab as an Independent, his lawyer has said earlier.
