Almost a quarter of BJP candidates contesting in Lok Sabha election 2024 are defectors.

According to a TOI report published on May 15, out of 435 BJP candidates, 106 joined the party in last ten years.

This include heavyweight candidates like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jitin Prasada and Naveen Jindal from the Congress.

The highest proportion of such candidates is in Andhra Pradesh, where BJP has fielded six candidates. In Uttar Pradesh, 31% of the party's candidates are defectors. 90 of these candidates have made the switch in just the past five years, TOI said.
