Counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections have sprung up surprises in several states so far. While several heavyweights are trailing in their turfs, first time candidates with a controversial link are leading.
In Punjab, Khalistani separatist leader Amritpal Singh is leading the fight with over 1.2 lakh votes on Faridkot seat.
Speaking to ANI, on the trends Amritpal Singh's father Tarsem Singh on June 4 said, " Firstly we would like to thank almighty who showed us the way. We are grateful to all the sangat for the respect and love they have showered on us. We were certain of the win and now it is turning into a reality because of them. They came and voted despite heat. The voters have crashed the efforts of the govt that tried to dishonour the Sikh globally last year."
He further added, "the govt should also understand and should withdraw all false charges against people like Amritpal".
Singh, who is currently lodged in the Dibrugarh jail under NSA filed his nomination papers with the help of Punjab government.
The Shiromani Akali Dal fielded a candidate as contingency.
