Royal families and more than one member of the family contesting the polls is quite common these days but husband and wife both seeking to retain Assembly and Lok Sabha seats is surely what makes the polls interesting. In Odisha, Patnagarh Assembly seat and Balangir Lok Sabha constituency are voting on May 20.
Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo is the BJP's MLA candidate for the Patnagarh Assembly seat. His wife Sangeeta Singh Deo is the saffron party's candidate for the Balangir Lok Sabha constituency. Kanak Vardhan Singh belongs to the erstwhile royal family of Patna, Bolangir.
In 2019, Kanak Vardhan Singh lost the Patnagarh Assembly seat to Saroj Kumar Meher and this time, Vardhan Singh is eyeing to retake it. Notably, the people of Patnagarh chose Vardhan Singh for five terms since 1995. However, in 2019, people gave a chance to BJD candidate Saroj Kumar Meher in 2019. And, now Kanak Vardhan Singh is trying to woo the voters again to win back the seat.
On the other hand, his wife, Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo is looking to retain the Balangir Lok Sabha constituency which she won in 1998,1999, and 2004. In 2009 and 2014, she lost to BJD's Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo. However, she won the seat back in 2019 again.
