AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi said the Supreme Court has played a major role in protecting India's democracy. This came shortly after the apex court granted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal interim bail till June 1 in the excise policy case.
"It is not just Arvind Kejriwal who has got interim bail, this decision of the Supreme Court has helped truth triumph, this is a win for the democracy and the Constitution... The SC has played a major role in protecting democracy," she said at a press conference in Delhi.
Celebrations erupted at AAP's office in Delhi after the Supreme Court's verdict.
Jubilant workers danced and raised slogans such as "Jail ke taale toot gaye, Kejriwal ji choot gaye".
In a major relief, the Supreme Court on Friday granted Kejriwal interim bail to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections.
A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Dipankar Datta said Kejriwal, arrested in a money-laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam, will have to surrender and go back to jail on June 2.
