Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and candidate from Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddha Nagar, Mahesh Sharma, stirred a controversy ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. He made a controversial statement during an election campaign on April 17.

During the campaign, he said, "Those who do not consider [Prime Minister Narendra] Modi and [Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath] as their own, do not regard their fathers as their own. If someone claims to be a bigger well-wisher than Modi and Yogi, they are a traitor to the nation."

The video has gone viral on X, amassing over 28,000 views.
